It's interesting though, there are a number of web resources which have reached a state of pre-eminence on one or other subject (at the moment, no-one is challenging Google's hegemony), and I can't really see IMDB ever fading into obscurity, as it's a superb database. The only thing is, whenever I look up a film, say, to find out the date of release, I always end up scrolling down to the discussions at the bottom of the page, and thinking "oh, this looks like an interesting discussion on the dialogue in Double Indemnity", and it never is. At least, there'll always be some patient movie buff talking about a relatively subtle point, and then about a thousand people who say things like "but it was rubbish, no-one talks like that, and it was too dark, I much prefer Raging Bull, because I don't like mainstream Hollywood Movies, LOL;". Damn it annoys me every time. |
