Right,
Miranda has suggested that because tonight is the first night when neither of us is going out and getting drunk, that we have you all around for food tonight. What's everyone doing tonight?

cheers, not sure whether i'm around. we're being taken out for lunch so i may be in no state to come round. having said that at the moment i feel like i never want to drink again so may have a quieter evening tonight |

met barney for a few drinks which got me drunk enough to order pete to come with me to the duke of devonshire when i got home. the duke of devonshire stays open late. so does the curry place. we met the boss of the curry place as they were trying to pack up when we demanded curry from them. he's got weird translucent green eyes

I've been to the doctors in Balham for a new patient check up
I put 15 units of alcohol per week on my form
Nurse said this level is ok - basically 2 days per week with no alcohol
at all, and 2 or 3 units with food on any other days
So lets see
Mon - 0
Tues - 3 pints (6 units)
Weds - 0
Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun - 9 units left to ration out between mealtimes and not
all at once
Charlie I'm afraid I'm going to have to start drinking halves |

oh i see. 2 units is a pint. what's the recommended number of units for a man? |

21. I put down 25 on my form, as I figured I probably drank more than I was supposed to, but didn't want to put anything too crazy. |

really? that doesn't seem much. don't they take account of binge drinking?
i went over that just yesterday and I can't see any space in my diary for not drinking during the rest of the week |

If it was just pints then I'd be well within the limit. But it's that rogue
bottle of gin that always slips in there and skews the calculations.
And apparently binge drinking is now officially bad for you. Which isn't
what I remember from the public health ads in the nineties. So I think the
British Medical Establishment has changed their tune on that one. |

they've been saying it's bad for you for a while now |
From: Chuckles | Date: Thursday, 9th December 2004 | Subject: Dinner Tonight
No, I distinctly remember the ads. It was old stock footage of David Niven
looking coy:
"Why, darling, you haven't had a drink in ages"
(Cut to Merle Oberon looking coy)
"I know darling, it's just I've been so terribly busy"
(Freeze frame, and voice over, possibly Harry Secombe)
"Can't find time for a drink? Maybe it's time to let your hair down a bit.
Drink at least half a bottle of Smirnoff vodka, or else a barrel of Beamish
stout every day, and you'll quickly find you feel better, look better, and
most importantly, YOU WILL BE BETTER."
Mind you, that was when Diageo was sponsoring the British Medical
Association. |
